THE PROCESS

The privilege of a lifetime is to become who we really are

Psychotherapy

Through the process of talk therapy, I help clients explore challenging issues that cause them distress and interfere with their ability to function in an optimal manner. Examples of such issues include depression, anxiety, difficult emotions, relationship issues, and trauma. Through talk therapy, you will have the opportunity get to know yourself better by discovering your strengths, increasing your self-esteem and becoming more empowered.

By externalizing your issues, you will develop a deeper understanding of your personal values, thereby enabling you to make choices based on your own unique feelings, emotions, needs and desires. By gaining awareness of your inner experience, you will find meaning and become more motivated to address painful and traumatic experiences, and be more willing and to change undesirable behaviors that are holding you back from achieving your goals.

Art Therapy

Art therapy offers a non-verbal avenue for addressing problems, thoughts, beliefs and feelings that you might otherwise feel unsafe expressing. Likewise, art therapy promotes the integration of themes addressed in psychotherapy, be it depression, anxiety, relationships or trauma.

This approach is particularly useful for people who just don't feel comfortable talking about their feelings and for those who have not yet developed their language skills. My role is to customize a therapeutic approach that will most effectively put you in contact with your feelings and help you overcome the obstacles. I will be there to guide you in the art experiences that will be most useful to you and to integrate art with traditional talk therapy.

Before we get started I want you to know that art therapy is not about creating a masterpiece. Usually we will spontaneously use colors to express immediate feelings in therapy and by doing so we can more easily get to the heart of the problem.

Art therapy works well for individuals, couples and groups of all ages, including children and for people who do not consider themselves artists

Somatic Therapy

Somatic therapy focuses on the connection between mind and body. It seeks to integrate mind and body by focusing on bodily sensations, which are often utilized as the gateway to increasing both one’s psychological awareness and ability to process emotions. This in turn facilitates the capacity to become more grounded and connected with one-self.

In my approach to somatic therapy, I introduce a breathing practice, which helps to induce a state of relaxation, increase self-awareness and insight. In addition, because the breathing practice helps us achieve a state of clarity and and helps us achieve a calmed state, it provides a buffer that increases our tolerance to explore difficult emotions and other underlying issues related to depression, anxiety, relationships, and everyday stress.

In addition, somatic approaches to therapy are  particularly well suited to the treatment of  trauma and other stress-related conditions (Brown, R., & Gerbarg, P. (2005b).
