About Art Therapy
Often people are weary of art therapy because they don't feel artistically gifted. Do not be put off; art therapy has nothing to do with artistic talent and everything to do with individual expression. I use art therapy to assist my clients in identifying their feelings in ways that words simply cannot convey, thus making it easier to focus directly on the problem at hand.
This approach is particularly useful for people who just don't feel comfortable talking about their feelings and for who have not yet developed their language skills. In summary, my role is to customize a therapeutic approach that will most effectively put you in contact with your feelings and help you overcome the obstacles.I will be there to guide you in the art experiences that will be most useful to you and to integrate art with talk therapy.
Before we get started I want you to know that art therapy is not about creating a masterpiece, usually we will spontaneously use colors to express immediate feelings in therapy and by doing so we can more easily get to the heart of the problem.
Art therapy works well for individuals, couples and groups of all ages, including children and for people who do not feel comfortable communicating verbally.
My approach to somatic therapy includes Jin Shin Jyutsu, an ancient Japanese healing art that helps to open up the body’s energy pathways and nourish our cells. By unblocking these pathways, healing occurs and we experience a sense of harmony and well-being in our entire being.
